Undisputedly the No 1 festival of Qingdao is the International Beer Festival that since 1991 has been hold for two weeks every year in August.
This festival is now the most influential festival in the whole of Shandong Province and plays today a unique role in carrying on the city’s hundred-year beer brewing history. Qingdao is the home of the world famous Tsingtao beer, a beer that has its origin already in the 19th century when the Germans settled in Qingdao.
As the largest beer festival in Asia, it is attended by millions of domestic and foreign visitors each year. Last year, the total participants surpassed 2 million, and the total beer consumption reached 520,000 liters (tons), hitting an all-time high,
The festival is not only beer drinking but also "Summer of Qingdao" Art Show, sports competitions, professional seminars, sand sculpture contests, and exhibitions of calligraphy and paintings. Spectacular firework shows together, a great parade with military bands and much more makes Qingdao International a must not only for beer lovers.
In this “City of Sailing” there is also festivals celebrating the sea as the Passion of the Sea Tourism Festival, Sand Beach Culture Festival and Oriental Cherry Meetings and others.
