The Boats

CHINA TEAM has two America’s Cup Class boats. These technological jewels are the Formula 1 racers of the oceans: 25 metres in length, 25 tonnes, turbo-charged and made entirely from carbon.
The two America’s Cup Class boats of CHINA TEAM
  • CHN69 – quarter-finalist in the 31st America’s Cup in 2003
  • CHN79 – training boat for the 31st America’s Cup in 2003
CHINA TEAM is investing all of its equity in the new campaign – its past experience, its scientific data and its logistical know-how. Using highly-developed operations management, CHINA TEAM ensured its boat CHN 69 and the team’s base infrastructure was set up at the Real Club Nautica in Valencia from June 2004.
CHN 69 (formerly FRA 69) had its first training sessions on the AC race course before Acts 1, 2 & 3 of the 2004 season even began – first in Marseille and then in Valencia. Since May 2005, the technical team has been under the direction of Pierre Massé (Tara), and has completed the modifications necessary to ensure that CHN 69 meets the new America’s Cup Class Rule (version 5).
At the end of this year, CHN 79 will go into the workshop to undergo these same modifications.
Both of CHINA TEAM’s bases (in Qingdao and Valencia) will be well set-up to accommodate the housing and modifications of the ACC yachts.
